January Recap

January 31, 2014

* The year started out a little different than usual.

* I started the January Cure. (Update: I didn’t finish. I got tripped up on the filing and organizing of papers- it turned out to be a much bigger job than I expected so this looks like it will be the January/February cure.)

* I caught up with some wonderful old friends.

* We hired a doula!

* We got a new mattress. King size= game changer. (I was surprised by how sad I was to say good bye to my old european queen, as tiny as it was. At one point I cried thinking that it was the last bed Princess ever slept on. Attachments are odd.)

* I had to do the big mama, three hour glucose test, which I barely passed. I’m not saying no sugar ever, I’m a woman of extremes and, pregnant or not, as soon as I do that I’ll be sucking down an entire bag of Uncle Eddie’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. I’ve been trying to find things that hit the spot (Banana Mana shake at Beverly Hills Juice is one!) but if I’m really craving something specific, I’ll have it.

* We went to a baby shower tea for some dear friends. Their baby is due right before ours and it felt like a final stretch kick off event, if that makes any sense. I’ve also (quite selfishly) found that I love the pure excitement of other people’s pregnancies. There is none of the stress and all the fun. It’s freeing to just celebrate our friends.

* I discovered Diane Keaton’s Pinterest and I want her to curate my life.

* I also discovered and have been pouring over the archives of these blogs:

Rosie Says

The City Sage

Lovely Morning

* Read and loved this NY Times essay: “How Long Do I Have Left? ”

*Watched 20 Feet From Stardom and had my mind blown. Also watched Hell Baby and  had my mind blown, albeit in a VERY different way. 😉

* I posted about washing your face with honey, did anyone try it?

I really enjoyed putting this little recap together. I’m thinking that with a little planning I could do it again next month and make it much better with more links outside of my own blog. I’m afraid my pregnancy brain is failing me in so many things I read or saw that I wanted to share about!

*Below are some pictures from this year so far.

It feels like I’ve been waiting for these little guys to bloom FOREVER. And there they go!

I don’t think it translates, but the baby reaaaaaaally prefers the right side. Here’s hoping that’s not an indicator of his future politics!

Gilly moment.

The door is so close, yet so far. Some days it’s so hard to get up!

Ignore the double chin, it comes with the territory I guess.

That "shake".

That “shake”.

I’ve been inordinately preoccupied with death lately. Reading “How Long Do I Have Left” reminds me that this preoccupation is fruitless so thank you for that.

One of my mother’s babies really preferred her right side …… years later she suffered a hernia on her right side that the doctor said probably began during that pregnancy. Regardless, pregnancy becomes you, at least appearance-wise!

I didn’t try washing with honey. I know someone asked this but I can’t remember your answer. Isn’t it sticky?

I’m so glad you like that piece! I needed that reminder as well. As for the honey, you just have to make sure you rinse really well.
