I just did the most L.A. thing I’ve ever done…

July 20, 2014

I don’t get a lot of down time with Eli’s dad. It’s rare that we sit next to each other in the morning and sip coffees. We’re also in the midst of some sleep changes that make that coffee oh-so-important.

This morning, after a few hours of fitful sleep (for me, not Eli) I realized that not only was the place where I get coffee made by someone else closed, but I was also out of almond milk. (Yes, I read that ubiquitous article on almond milk by Tom Philpott, but I can’t have cow or soy and I hate coconut in my coffee, so shush.)

What was I supposed to do? Walk to the store four blocks away? Yes. Duh. But I didn’t. Today I did something so cliche and L.A. that in over thirty years of living here I’ve never done.

I’m just glad my son’s not old enough to understand.
